Propeller Dance has been touring integrated dance theatre across Ottawa since 2007 and has performed in over 115 schools and community venues, reaching thousands of students. Performances and Workshops are again being offered in Ottawa Schools with the aim of introducing the beauty and power of integrated dance theatre to Ottawa's children and youth.
Through a 45 minute, integrated learning experience Propeller Dance dancers break down the myths and stereotypes about disabilities and the arts and explores issues of social diversity and working together as a group. Learning is further enhanced by a more personal interactive question and answer period where dancers express their experience with dance and disability following the performance.
Alternatively, Propeller Dance's Wheels & Feet Workshops offer a more personalized interactive classroom based performance and workshop. Students experience the joy of movement and self expression in a small group.
Here's how it works: Perfect for grades 1 through to 12, propeller Dance will send our Dance Company to your school. We can do one or two performances or workshops at your school. Performances can be for the whole school or for specialized groups; Workshops are best for groups up to a max of 30. You decide who we see and when.
For the students: workshops are fun, dynamic and interactive, blending theatre and dance to bring to life some of today’s social issues.
For the teachers: inviting a Propeller Dance Workshop into your classroom will provide an excellent professional development opportunity, demonstrating the use of drama as a vehicle for exploring social diversity. Our activities are designed to address specific learning outcomes from the Ontario Curriculum. We will also leave you with copies of the Propeller Dance Study Guide. A companion to both the performance and the classroom workshops, this Guide is resource and inspiration to continue learning about diversity and movement with your class.
